There is nothing taking off for the weekend. Vicki and I are always available when there are 5 weekends in the month. We do not have ay commitments so we try and arrange things for some sort of relaxing activity. Sometimes it is hard getting someone to house sit and look after the beagles, but now Matt and Nic are back from England, They have been able to help out. I am still expecting that the hounds will tell us off when we get home. Well we got the opportunity to get away and this time, We have headed North to Coffs Harbour. We are staying with our relatives, Tracey and Andrew (plus children), It’s great to catch up with them, Living so far apart, sometimes we don’t see each other for long periods of time.
Despite the rain, It’s a lovely place here in Coffs. After the last few frigid weeks in Sydney it almost feels like we stepped back into summer. 23 C feels really warm.
I tweeted that I was in Coffs and I was almost immediately tweeted back by @coffscoast How great is that? It is fabulous to see people in Australia using twitter more and more. @coffscoast pointed us to some useful information about the area on the Coffs Coast Tourism Website.
Saturday
I have not spent much time in Coffs itself so I enjoyed my trip to the Coffs Jetty and Mutton bird Island on Saturday.
After a walk up to the end of the jetty, watching soem kids jumping from the jetty into the water , a 4 – 5 metre jump. And taking pics , went round to the Marina and walked up to the top of Muttonbird Island. Very worthwhile experience but I have a feeling that my legs are going to be pretty sore tomorrow. The Island is quite steep but there is a track which takes you across the center of the island. Once you reach the top is is pretty easy going. I think it’s hard sometimes to believe how stressed you are when you are doing the day by day grind. But when you get someplace like the top of Mutton Bird island and look down at the view, and you realise how destressed you feel….. It tends to make you aware of your stressed status. At the End of Day 1 I already felt like i have been on a holiday. The beer at the end of the day helped accentuate the relaxation as well.
Sunday
I slept in! I am always up really early because so many things are rattling around my head I have to get up and work. I slept in by at least an hour and a half longer than normal. – Hey perhaps I am feeling relaxed.
Wow – What a day, I am so sore now because of all the walking around… It was pointed out that perhaps I should get more exercise. I think that’s correct. When I get home I am going to start walking in the morning.
A trip up to a local Waterfall in Woolgoolga (Woopi) was excellent fun. Didn’t really like the leeches, but they didn’t really eat much.
What a spectacular place to take a walk, we had to cross a few little creeks after a great scramble around the waterfall we returned to where we left the cars, and cooked a great lunch using the free gas BBQ facilities supplied.
After an afternoon nap it was time to take another walk, this time Emerald beach, just a couple of minutes down the road. So with dogs and kids, we strolled , occasionally throwing a ball to the dog. A great end to a fab weekend.
Sunset Walk on the beach
Some say that the destination is not important, it is the journey that matters. In the case of Coffs Harbour, that saying is not true at all.
