You know lately, with all the economic woes we have experienced both as a nation and myself personally, you would think I would be angrier than ever.
I am not.
Apart from the Reserve Banks decision to raise interest rates earlier than they should have which is applying more pressure on the mortgaged masses.
I think old Kev is doing a pretty good job. Malcolm seems to have pulled his head in. He needed to do that, it was about to get lopped by his peers. Nathan and his razor gang of thieves a.k.a. The NSW government are still screwing us rotten. No one in NSW is reporting it because people have given up. These slime bags are the new untouchables. Nathan has gone to ground a bit more and is wrecking things in the background secretly. Things are reasonably quiet. Which brings me to my point: I am not as angry. I am certainly not as fired up or focused on the political scene as I used to be. Is it because life is much tougher? I have to work so very much harder just to stay afloat. The political scene at the moment is not anything to do with my main focus. that being pay the bills and put food on the table. I can’t really influence things much until the next federal and state elections, at which time I am planning to get very vocal.
So what about the blog?
It occurs to me that I have so much to wrote about other than things political. Even with the tough times, life is great. There is so much I am learning, so many new technologies. the world is changing very fast. I am excited about it .
So this blog will not be so politically focussed any more. I will be writing more about my life and what I am discovering and about the things that are changing around me. I am sure that I have a rant or two left in me and I can’t see myself not being political. just not as often as I have in the past. With that in mind:
These thoughts are based on a dream which woke me and got me up up at 4:30 this morning (on my day off – groan) Once upon a time ….. There were the original markets the real ones where real entrepreneurship was born and the stock market has it’s roots. Where if you didn’t sell you didn’t eat.
There are still some around … go to Singapore or to Hong Kong. I remember being in Singapore. There was a whole street with almost the same product. Everyone was in competition. Everyone was getting a slice of the action because of the sprooking. The REAL salesmanship. The ones who didn’t sprook starved and had vanished a long time ago. I see these markets in my mind where everyone is shouting to the customer about their product, wheeling bartering, selling making a living amongst the chaos.
I think of the most noisy dangerous market of all. the bull pit at the New York Stock Exchange. This has the noise and insanity of the old market place multiplied 10 to the power – but in a modern day setting. More stuff is sold there in 1 minute than any other place ever has or probably will. I see power in the voices of the sellers . Imaging our little local farmers market where Vicki and I sell our doggy treats and dried bones. Instead of our comfortable little existence, several other businesses the same as the ones that are there got squashed into the same space. Five Kerrie’s Jams , three Vegetable sellers. four fish mongers. What would happen?
Would they want to be placed as far away from each other as possible so there would be no clashes? probably but that would be the wrong thing to do. I see it now, when competition in markets are isolated geographically Some will be favoured because of geography and because of that there will be winners and losers based on the geographical position they hold in the market space, rather than the quality or price of the products. should they be placed in closer proximity so that there is no geographical bias. Absolutely.
What would be the result?
The customers will be faced with a choice. The shiniest red apples, or the cheapest grapes. but if prices are similar and quality is on a par what is left?
The answer is the power of the seller to persuade or entice you to buy. The weapon is the skill at sprooking and that is what makes the difference between a sale and no sale. Not shouting, or haranguing but the eloquence of the market seller. ![]()
Did you know there are markets that are prohibiting sprooking? I think that is a real shame. Markets are much more sanitary in so many ways these days. just like life is.
