I am in the middle of godaddy hell. We have been working on the launch of a new shopping page for our Well Fed Pets business for a while now. Marketing completed; Merchant Account set up, pricing completed ; postage calculated ; product photos taken ; page (version 1) written. All I needed to do was get the SSL certificate on line. I have been working with websites since 1994 and have set up numerous SSL certificates. Never have I had so much trouble as I have had this past week. It should have been easy but it wasn’t. The first certificate I bought was no good as it would not work with the domain name as it was not a top level domain in my hosting package.

So I get onto godaddy support and I am told that I need this expensive certificate that can be used with up to 5 domains. If I have to have that one Ok I bite the bullet and shell out nearly $100 US instead of $30 and follow the directions in setting it up. After a few days and the certificate is not working yet I call support several times over a 24 hour period to work with them on the problem. We figure out there was an email sent to one of my email accounts asking for verification to proceed, only the email dropped into my spam catcher. I get through the approval process and am then told that it will take up to 72 hours to come through.

I check day after day and keep getting an error every time I go to the page using https . After a few days I ring back support and am told there is actually a problem with the certificate. The help desk operator does not want to help me and wants me to ring the SSL people direct (International call ) I decline and ask to be transferred – apparently this is not possible. After about 40 minutes with the tech talking to the SSL people they say it has been fixed but it could take 24 hours to come through. Although he thought It would probably only take 1 hour.

He also tells me I should have called them earlier and I should not have been told that it would take 72 hours. Now I am starting to get annoyed What why did one tech tell me it was going to take 72 hours and the next tech tell me that it shouldn’t have.

After a couple of hours I started complaining to @godaddyguy on Twitter. he tells me”I have our SSL support department looking at the issue and they’ll be responding ASAP.”

That was 11 hours ago. from the error message being produced nothing has changed. Meanwhile we are unable to sell using our shopping page cause no SSL is in place.

#godaddysucks @godaddyguy ! I am sick of waiting i have been pretty patient. Someone is lying to me either godaddy support guy 1 or godaddy support support guy 2. both tried to get out of helping me. and neither fixed my problem. Get off your duff godaddy and get it fixed!!!

So that leads me back to the title of this blogpost. until my problem is fixed, there is a new hastag on twitter and that is #godaddysucks. !
